Holbrook Sports started the new East Midlands Counties League season with new management and predominantly a new team.
Missing from Saturday’s fixture against Ellistown was the suspended Niall Mather and the unavailable Kane Jellyman, Micky Allsop and Paul Fisher.
Holbrook should have been behind after only 30 seconds but a brilliant point blank save from Scott Whittingham saved their blushes. Both teams had chances to score with Holbrook’s best chance from a 30-yard shot from debutant Phil Granville but the Ellistown keeper expertly tipped it away. Scott Whittingham was commanding in the Holbrook nets.
The Brookies came out in the second half and immediately were the better side, having finally find their game. Cory Bowler was causing problems down the left but unfortunately Holbrook looked blunt upfront. Their best chance again came from a long range effort, this time the keeper tipping away a Cory Bowler effort. With Holbrook pressing, Ellistown had a couple of breakaways but could not beat Scott Whittingham.
