Swanwick Pentrich Road FC celebrated its golden anniversary in front of a bumper crowd on Sunday.
In sunny conditions, players from all five decades pulled on their boots, to take on a selection of ex-professional players.
The opposition was assembled by local resident and former Aston Villa player Mark Draper.
The Midlands XI starting line-up consisted of a variety of players who had all previously played in the top flight of the British domestic league, with four former international players.
These included former England and Nottingham Forest legend Des Walker. With such a high calibre of player, it was no surprise that the guests took the attack to Swanwick’s legends side, who were put together by Phill Walters.
The first half finished 7-0. However, all the former Swanwick players thoroughly enjoyed pulling on the white shirt with pride.
Jamie Lawrence led the goalscoring, claiming a hat-trick, Ian Mahon added a brace and took the man of the match award, with David Rush and Julian Joachim chipping in with one apiece.
After the half-time interval, it was the turn of the current Swanwick Pentrich Road squad, who are currently playing in step 7 of the football pyramid.
This gave the visiting team a much sterner test, with both defences looking solid.
A special mention has to made to Kevin Pilkington, who was the only player on the pitch who could qualify for both teams.
The former Swanwick, Manchester United player and Celtic player said he was pleased with his clean sheet as the second half ended goalless.
A club spokesman said: “Lee Lawrence, football director at Swanwick PR, and Mark Draper were thrilled with how well the day went. With so much effort going into the day and with the back-room staff totally committed to celebrating in style, it’s no surprise the club has kept going from strength to strength for over half a century.
“The club would like to thank everyone involved in making the day a huge success and hope to see many faces back at Highfield Road when the 2014/15 season starts in August.”
