Generous players and officials at Swanwick Pentrich Road Football Club took time out from their busy schedule of matches to help a nearby school.
The club raised £166 during a pre-season challenge game against Ripley Town. And now they have presented a cheque to Swanwick Pre-School, a playgroup that provides quality care and education for children aged between two and five.
The cheque was presented by Dave ‘Taddy’ Walters, a former player at the club, before one of Swanwick’s home games in the Central Midlands League, South Division.
Walters handed it over to Alison Briddon, who works at the school, which has been established in Swanwick for more than 40 years.
A spokesman for the football club, Phil Gregory, said: “Both Dave and Alison were delighted with the efforts of Swanwick and Ripley in helping to raise money for the pre-school. The clubs look forward to repeating the event next year.”
Swanwick are still unbeaten this season, having won two and drawn four of their first six league matches. They are also through to the second round of the league cup after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Easington United last Saturday thanks to two goals from substitute Guy Wilding and one from Guy Taylor.
