Eastwood & Heanor Foresters lost 4-2 to Codnor Boys at the weekend but showed plenty of determination and resolve during the game.
This was the under 18s first league game of the season and, as a newly formed team, was also the first time the players had played together competitively.
Team manager Gianfranco Formosa is quietly confident that the team will grow stronger throughout the season and challenge other teams in their division.
“Our players are still getting to know how each other play but individually are all extremely skilled. Experience of playing as a team is all that is missing at this stage. However all of our players show determination and give 100 per cent effort which is all that we can ask of them.
“The fact that both our strikers scored in our first match is a good sign going forward and there were many chances missed on both sides throughout the game.”
Goalscorers for Foresters were Jono Dowd and Adam Baldwin with their goalkeeper Nathan King being awarded Man of the Match thanks to his fantastic penalty save during the latter stages of the second half.
The club is looking to develop younger players in preparation for the 2015/16 season and will be recruiting boys and girls that are currently in year 3. The club will post an advert once they have a confirmed starting date. However if you are interested now, the club can take your details.
