First-half goals are costly for Ambergate

Ambergate lost 4-1 at Tibshelf in Division One of the Midlands Regional Alliance.

Tibshelf came into this game with only four points so far this season, but they tore Ambergate apart in a first half which saw them leading 4-0 at half time.

The deadlock was broken after just seven minutes when Tibshelf broke quickly down the left and a cross was tucked away.

Ambergate were punished again after 15 minutes when it became 2-0.

The third goal just before the half hour mark summed up the lacklustre first half performance from Ambergate as a shot from 20 yards crashed against Waite’s crossbar and Tibshelf were first to the rebound to score. The fourth goal was almost identical to the first.

The second half performance was better and Ryan Walters scored for Ambergate in dying minutes with the goal of the game.

Josh Catterns chipped a corner to Walters on the edge of the area and his first time volley flew into the top corner giving the ‘keeper no chance.

It was all too little, too late as Ambergate’s first half performance destroyed any chance of getting anything out the game.
