Football supremo Sophie, who is perhaps best-known for being a part of the Olympic football side in London 2012, will be visiting the Derbyshire School Games Event at Mount St Mary’s College on July 5.

Sophie will be attending the event in her capacity as Sport England Sporting Champions and is excited about interacting with the young people at the event.

She said: “Having represented Britain at major events like the Olympics and the World Cup, I feel it is really important for me to give something back to sport because it has given me so much.

“That is why I love being a Sport England Sporting Champion and working with young people.

“I am looking forward to doing just that at the upcoming School Games. I am excited to meet all the young participants and volunteers in attendance and my aim is to raise their aspirations of what they can achieve.

“I know that it will be a fantastic event so I cannot wait for the action to get underway in Derbyshire.”

At a local level the School Games are delivered by schools, School Games Organisers, clubs, County Sports Partnerships, NGBs and other local partners.

Local organising committees, chaired by head teachers and actively supported by county sports partnerships and London Youth Games, oversee the county festivals.

Every school in England has been given the opportunity to get involved, potentially giving every school child the chance to take part.

There are over 20,000 schools registered as part of the School Games and there are around 80 School Games County Festivals due to take place in this academic year.
