Ripley Town continued their fine run in Division One of the Midlands Regional Alliance with a 2-1 victory on Saturday against Derby Singh Brothers.
Ripley followed up last week’s 3-1 win over title rivals Pastures with another vital win against another team that is pushing for promotion.
Ripley were ahead inside 20 seconds as they cut through the visitors’ back four without them touching the ball, Will Dennis neatly finishing a slick move.
However, if Ripley thought thatg this was going to be a stroll, they were wrong.
The Derby-based side had a large share of possession and forced several corners but Ripley’s defence was in great form keeping them at bay.
The second half was equally tight. Sam Chambers went close with a lob from 30 yards as Town looked for the vital second goal.
This came ten minutes from time as Eddie Johnson came off the bench to fire a stunning goal from distance.
The visitors responded and finally broke Ripley’s resistance with three minutes remaining and, despite late pressure Ripley held on for the points.
Another tough fixture awaits Paul Lavender’s side this Saturday when Ripley travel to second placed Wirksworth Ivanhoe with the game kicking off at 3pm.
