Meet the U12 team of Aldercar and Langley Mill Football Club who have enjoyed an excellent debut season.
Known as ALM FC, they finished third in the league and also reached a cup final.
Now they are looking forward to even more success in the years to come.
“The boys have only been a team for almost a year,” said a club spokeswoman. “So for them to achieve this in such a short space of time is amazing.”
ALM competed in the KickStart Youth League and played ten matches in the Second Division. They won six of them, losing just three, and ended up in third place, behind only the runaway champions, Ashfield Arrows, who didn’t drop a single point, and runners-up MDC. They finished well clear of Rainworth Rangers, South Normanton Colts and Welbeck Welfare.
ALM hoped to crown their first campaign with glory in the league’s KSA Vase competition, and hopes were sky-high after they routed Rainworth 9-1 in the semi-finals.
But despite a brave effort in the final, which was held at Mansfield Town’s One Call Stadium, they went down 7-5 in an action-packed thriller against South Normanton, who avenged a 10-0 league defeat at the hands of ALM only two months earlier.
