A solitary goal three minutes from time by defender Ashleigh Lynch snatched a precious victory for Heanor Town in a tough match against Coleshill Town that looked certain to end in deadlock.
Two evenly matched teams found it difficult to break each other down in front of a crowd of 102 at The Town Ground. But in the 87th minute, a shot by Jordan Simpson was blocked and the loose ball fell to his centre-back partner Lynch, who volleyed a fierce drive under goalkeeper Paul Hathaway.
The goal grabbed a 1-0 win for Heanor to keep them fifth in the Midland League, Premier Division table, albeit well behind the top two, Alvechurch, whom they play this Saturday, and Hereford.
But Warwickshire visitors Coleshill, who sit eighth and finished runners-up last term, were by no means a pushover and even thought they’d scored in the first half, only for a linesman to flag for offside. They also forced goalkeeper Joe McCormack into a superb save from a free-kick just outside the box.
Heanor welcomed back striker Karl Demidh from his mid-season break in Las Vegas and both he and Arash Abdollahi fired off target in the opening stages.
Demidh was joined in the second period by his former Mickleover Sports teammate, Simeon Osheboke, a new signing. But chances for both sides became increasingly limited, with the best, until the late winner, falling to skipper Nick Hall, who blasted over the Keith Costello Stand with a powerful, rushed effort.
