"I'm 36 in a couple of weeks and I want to keep playing, I can't wait another few months to be out of the game at my age, so I will be looking to play locally for the remainder of this season with the hope of speaking with Billy regarding next season," he told Alfreton's website.

Manager Billy Heath said: "It looks as though Danny has an opportunity to continue playing locally at a grassroots level and that is typical of the player he is, at his age, he just wants to play and has the desire to do so, the termination of his contract does not rule him out returning to the club in the summer."

Alfreton will kick off next season on August 14, it has been announced.
