Codnor Boys under 15s regained top spot of the DCL Under 15s Division Three with a convincing 9-1 win against Spondon Rovers, and are now just two wins away from securing promotion.
Codnor started the game well, and took the lead on 17 minutes when Webster played in Carlin, who scored with a cool finish.
Ten minutes later, it was 2-0, when Heappey beat his man before slotting in a pass to give Wood the easiest of finishes.
Chance after chance came, with Codnor controlling the game with some delightful passing in difficult conditions.
On 39 minutes, it was 3-0, with James tapping in from a Wilmot chip for his tenth of the season, and it was 4-0 on the stroke of half-time when Wood got his second from a delightful Cashmore pass.
After the break, it was soon 5-0, with Grainger getting a head to a corner for Atkin to convert at the back post. On 57 minutes, Spondon were given a lifeline, when Byrne was very late in a tackle to give away a penalty, which was converted.
Five minutes later, normality was restored, with Wood completing his hat-trick for his tenth goal of the season. After a long-term injury, Soar made his comeback, and was soon on the scoresheet with a double himself to make it 8-1. With a minute to play it was Waldron who completed the scoring, firing in from 22 yards for his first of the season.
Man of the Match went to Matthew Atkin, who had an accomplished game at the back, although Grainger, and in particular Wood, also deserve special mention.
