TUESDAY night was a bitter sweet night for the area’s top football teams.
Heanor Town fell at the penultimate hurdle in the East Midlands League, League Cup when they went down 1-0 to Radcliffe Olympic in a semi-final tie staged at Radford FC.
The only goal of the tie came with just 15 seconds of normal time left with Ryan Smith heading the Notts side into the final.
Alfreton Town’s resurgence goes on and they recorded a fifth win from the last six games to go ten points clear of the relegation places.
Nicky Law’s side came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Ebbsfleet United, The hosts had gone in front on seven minutes through Liam Enver-Marum but Alfreton levelled on 35 minutes through Adam Cunnington and then grabbed the winner on 48 minutes thanks to Josh Law’s first goal of the season. Law junior netted a low drive from 18yards to ensure the Reds and supporters had a happy 166-mile trip back from deepest Kent.
