Eastwood Town 3
Heanor Town 1
Eastwood Town earned their first major win of the pre-season campaign as they came from behind to beat Heanor Town on Saturday.
Heanor, depleted by virtue of several team members attending goalkeeper Mark Frost’s wedding, still put up a good fight but the Badgers’ quality eventually shone through late in the game.
Much of the match was dire, neither side able to create too much in the final third and when chances did arise, execution was largely poor.
Returning striker Greg Simmons blazed high and wide in the fourth minute and Brad Munn then saw a shot parried away by keeper Ross Cherry after good work down the left by Ash Robinson.
Chances were then few and far between, Robinson, Munn and Simmons all going close before Heanor’s Nick Hall struck the foot of a post with a dipping effort right on half-time.
Initially, the second-half wasn’t much better, Rich Whyman and Munn both nearly opening the scoring for Eastwood, but in the end Heanor were the side who would strike first on 67 minutes.
It was a simple goal, Hall peeling away at the back post to head home a right-wing corner from six yards out.
Heanor’s Levi Ramsey and James Baker then found Eastwood goalkeeper Alex Malong and the foot of the post respectively in the search for a second goal, before the Badgers turned the game around in a frenetic eight minute spell.
First, sub Kieran Wells got down the left and put a ball into the six-yard box which was scrambled over the line by trialist Jevon Seaton on 76 minutes.
Six minutes later, a ball into the penalty area was well controlled by Liam Garner who then finished well to put the Badgers in front, and within 60 seconds it was 3-1 as Wells chased a through ball, nicked in front of keeper Cherry and was then able to roll the ball into an empty net.
There was still time for Wells put a header over the top from ten yards out late on but the damage had been done and Eastwood had secured a morale-boosting friendly win.
