Ambergate maintain 100 per cent start to season

Midlands Regional Alliance

Division Two

Hilton Harriers 3, Ambergate 4

Ambergate maintained their 100 per cent record in a thrilling game of seven goals and a red card.

Ambergate started the brighter and created numerous chances to take the lead, but having not taken them they found themselves behind after a defensive error. Wayne Hall’s back pass was misjudged by goalkeeper Jason Hooley, and the Hilton striker took advantage to score.

This was the third consecutive match that Ambergate had trailed, but like the others they managed to find a way back into the game.

It was a game changing incident in which this happened, Bestwick’s free kick was spilled by the keeper, and during the goalmouth scramble a Hilton defender handled on the line. A penalty was given, and a red card. Shaun Bestwick scored fromthe spot.

Before half time Ambergate grabbed the lead. Quick thinking by Rich Clark gave Bestwick time and space to find the bottom corner.

However, within minutes of the second half kicking off Hilton stunned ‘gate with an equaliser, a fantastic 25 yard strike into the top corner.

Hilton made life difficult for Ambergate even with the ten men. But the visitors regained the lead after good work from Tom Aston allowed Rich Clark space to fire home.

Hilton wouldn’t give up though and equalised again, another good move was well finished by the Hilton winger.

The game looked destined for a draw as Stevenson missed an open net, and chances went begging.

But an unlikely goalscorer in the shape of Jack Ferguson grabbed maximum points for Ambergate, a cool finish after a corner wasn’t fully cleared.
