Almost 300 at Carsington

ALMOST 300 competitors, from as far afield as Devon, Norfolk and Lancashire, attended Derwent Valley Orienteering Club’s first event of the autumn season which was staged at Carsington Pastures and Harborough Rocks.

The promised heat wave did not materialise but once the early morning fog lifted challenging courses were available to both young and old.

Eight courses were on offer which were colour-coded according to length and difficulty.

Peter Hodkinson from Nottinghamshire won the premier 9.7km brown course in just under 41 minutes.

Notable local firsts were Rachel Duckworth on the white course, Nicola Northcott on the orange, Paul Goodhead on the Light Green and Ro Cole on the Shorter Green. The most notable success was however was Khem Sattaur who showing consistent improvement over the previous year took the honours for the Green Course, completing the 5.8km course in 40 min 54s, over two minutes ahead of the second place runner.

The next event open to all in Derbyshire will be at Calke Park on November 20. Please visit for more details or telephone 01629 734042
