Alfreton Town aiming to end winless streak

Alfreton Town are back in Vanarama National League North action on Saturday when Gloucester City are the visitors to the Impact Arena.

Tthe Reds will be looking to bounce back from a run of four league games without a win, a direct contrast to their recent long unbeaten run.

The Reds will want to regain some of that earlier form to try and push themselves further up the league as the end of the season closes in.

In their last outing, Alfreton were narrowly beaten 1-0 at home to FC United of Manchester last weekend, as George Thomson’s goal 26 minutes was enough to separate the two sides.

Reds manager Nicky Law will have to make changes to the side with leading scorer Sam Jones starting a three-game suspension and both Cliff Moyo and Brad McGowan out through injury. Law does have latest signing striker Jamie McDonagh available though and he is likely to figure at some stage of the game.

Gloucester have struggled for form recently, collecting only three points from their last five league games and only managing to score on three occasions in that period.

In their most recent game, they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to table toppers Solihull Moors, a result of which leaves the Gloucestershire side sat in thirteenth place in the table, four points behind Alfreton having played the same number of games.

On the road, Gloucester have won five times, drawn five and lost seven times so far this season.

In the first game of the season between the sides, way, way back on Tuesday, August 18th a 42nd minute Tom Allan goal for the Reds was cancelled out by Marc Richards on 83 minutes to ensure the spoils were shared.

Kick-off for this Saturday’s game at the Impact Arena is 3pm.

Prior to Saturday’s game, a minute’s silence will held as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives in Brussels earlier this week.
