Blue Square Bet Premier Division
Alfreton Town v AFC Telford United
at The Impact Arena
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law is threatening changes to his side for the first game of a crucial double-header at home in four days.
The Reds host AFC Telford United at the Impact Arena on Saturday and Stockport County next Tuesday and Law’s squad have been told in no uncertain terms that last week’s display in the 4-0 defeat at top-of-the-table Fleetwood Town was nowhere near good enough.
Law explained: “The players have been told that last Saturday was unacceptable, and the position we are in, I should not be having to try and liven things up.
“It is a fact that we have to up our performance. Possibly only Leigh Franks and the substitutes who came on came out with any degree of credit last week.
“We are in a relegation fight and are fighting for our lives and I expect to see that in the performance. I didn’t see that at Fleetwood. For me, there was not a great deal of fight there and not a great deal of spark.
“Changes will be made. We have got to get a reaction. The changes will give the people coming in a chance to stake a claim for the remainder of the season.”
Law is expecting another intense clash against Telford who arrive three places and four points better off than Alfreton.
He ended: “Over the last few years we seem to have come across each other a fair bit and they are always tight, close encounters, and I am sure it will be the same again with both teams fighting for the points.”
With the exception of goalkeeper Joe Day who is still out with a groin problem, Law welcomes Anton Brown back into a full-strength squad after a one game suspension.
