Langley Mill Utd 1sts suffered their first defeat of the DCCL Division Two season, at the hands of Nutbrook on Saturday.
Batting first, the Millers scored a below par 204 from their 46 overs.
It didn’t start too well as the Millers where reduced to 39-3 after ten overs, losing Neil Wing (3), Jamie Salmons (0) and Aaron Tullett (0), with Daniel Brooks, Maxwell Magann and Matt Wakefield taking the wickets.
The Bailey brothers set about repairing the early damage, but in the 20th over Andrew (35) became Magann’s second victim, which left the Millers 80-4. Jack Scott joined Paul and these pair put on 80 before Bailey fell for 83, caught by Henshaw in the deep.
Jack Scott finished unbeaten on 38, while James Harrison blasted a six off the last ball to take the Millers over 200 for maximum batting points.
So, with a small total to defend, the Millers needed to get off to a good start with the ball but this was not the case.
Nutbrook raced away to 46 off the first ten overs with the loss of one wicket, Brooks (21) bowled by Hatton.
This brought Magann to the crease and he and Palfreyman took Nutbrook to 104 before Palfreyman fell LBW to Jack Scott. Skipper Bailey came on to try and slow the run rate down and he removed Magann (37) to leave the Brook 124-3. The game was still in Nutbrook’s hands. Jay Holmes bowled another tight spell but it was not enough as Nutbrook’s skipper Sanderson scored 53 not out to take his team over the line.
Hatton, Scott and Bailey all picked a wicket up apiece and Holmes picked up the other two wickets.
So after last week’s high, the Millers are brought back down to earth with a bump.
This week they travel to South Wingfield, looking to put this defeat behind them.
Match ball sponsor was T N Decking and they chose Paul Bailey as their Man of the Match for his 83.
