SUNDAY night at Marehay Cricket Club pavilion was the scene for celebration as both the 1st and 2nd XIs had achieved promotion from their respective divisions.

In County League division two on Saturday at Alvaston, Marehay had to settle for a 17-point haul by a home side who refused to be bowled out on a placid wicket.

Marehay had posted 221-9 with Danny Parkin top scoring with 61 from 59 deliveries and other good contributions from Andy Walters (35), Ady Vickerage (28) and John Longdon (22 not out).

Tim Popes 41 not out did most to frustrate Marehay as A&B finished on 138-5.

Sundays game was almost a carbon copy as Marehay amassed 214-4 and declared in the 44th over, Ady Vickerage not out on 86 and Gaz Buckley 33 not out the main contributors.

A disappointing Nutbrook side battened down the hatches from the start and from the 48 overs they managed just 119-5 to give Marehay anoter 17 points and second place in the final league, eight points behind worthy champions Selston.

Marehay 2nds completed a double promotion success for the club by virtue of Stonebroom conceding 27 points on the Saturday and a winning draw at Nutbrook on the Sunday.

Having been asked to bat first at Nutbrook, the visitors scored 212-7 thanks to Edwin Clarke (70) and the consistent Kev Bonser with 68.

Nutbrook made a valiant attempt to win the game but lost wickets at vital moments and they had to hang on at 172-9.

T Scott top-scored with 58 while for Marehay Dave Buckley took 3-35, the winning draw being enough to seal the third promotion spot available in division 4C.
