Denby up to third after win against Sandiacre

Denby CC 1sts defeated defending champions Sandiacre Town on Saturday to move up to third position in the Derbyshire Cricket Premier League.

This latest victory for Joe Greenhalgh’s side means thatDenby are now just three points behind second-placed Lullington Park, the only team to defeat them so far in the league this season.

Hosts Sandiacre won the toss and batted first, but only four of their batsmen got into double figures as they were dismissed for 182 in the 48th over.

The main contributions came from opener Curtley Read (25), plus an unbeaten 61 from Ben Ruhrmund and a knock of 38 from Andy Rhodes.

For Denby, the wickets were taken by Fraser Kirk (2-48), Peter Burgoyne (4-39) and Paul Allen (3-59).

When it came to making their reply, there were key contributions from quite a few members of Denby’s top order to help them on their way to victory.

Cameron Bancroft made 33, Michael Mitchell 38, Peter Burgoyne 32 and Greg Cork 43 not out as the target was reached for the loss of six wickets in the 47th over.

The win means that Denby took the maximum points haul of 27 from the game and their hosts are now sitting in fifth place in the table.

This Saturday, Denby are home to Chesterfield with the game at the Copper Yard getting under way at 12.30pm.

As for Denby 2nds, they drew with Langley Mill 1sts in Division Two.

Denby made 181-9 in reply to Langley Mill’s 194-9 in a game that had a tight finish to keep everyone on their toes right to thefinal over.

Meanwhile, in Division 8N, Denby 3rds drew their game with Riddings.

Riddings made 190-9 from their 46 overs and Denby replied with 165-3.

Denby 2nds are now eighth in Division Two and the 3rds are ninth in Division 8N.
