Denby CC 1sts lost by six wickets on Saturday at home to Derbyshire Premier League leaders Ockbrook and Borrowash.

Skipper Joe Greenhalgh won the toss for Denby at the Copper Yard and opted to bat first.

An opening of 44 gave Denby a decent start before Michael Mitchell departed for 24.

Peter Burgoyne was dismissed for just two but opener Bradley Davis then teamed up with Greg Cork for a stand of 52 to take the score to 100.

Cork made 24 and there was also an invaluable knock down the order of 28 not out from Daniel Burgoyne, made off just 23 balls.

But Davis proved to be the top scorer in the innings, eventually being dismissed for 74.

The final score for Denby from their 50 overs was 186-8.

For Ockbrook and Borrowash, Josh Clarke was by far the most successful in terms of wickets taken, returning figures of 5-44 from 11 overs.

Nick Birds took two wickets while there was a tight spell from former Derbyshire left arm seamer Kevin Dean.

In reply, Ockbrook eventually got home in 49.1 overs, for the loss of four wickets.

Josh Clarke was dismissed early on by Greg Cork for 13 but his fellow opener Matthew Cassar batted throughout the innings to make an unbeaten 84.

Joe Greenhalgh took 3-28 from 15 overs for Denby.

The result means that Denby are now in fifth position in the table as the season enters its final quarter.
