Glorious sunshine...but no cricket at Queen's Park for Derbyshire

The outfield at Queen's Park has been deemed too wet, forcing the abandonment of the opening day of Derbyshire's Division Two match with Northamptonshire.

No play was possible after recent heavy rain left the ground sodden in Chesterfield.

Although the Queen’s Park ground was bathed in sunshine, the umpires were left with no alternative but to abandon play for the day shortly after a 12.30pm inspection.

The outfield is still saturated and the bowlers run-up at the Lake End were judged “too dangerous” for the match to begin.

It is the second consecutive day that there has been no cricket at the ground after Sunday’s t20 Blast match was adandoned without a ball bowled.
