County offers deals to trio of graduates from club’s academy

Derbyshire County Cricket Club has offered contracts to a trio of young Academy graduates.

While Greg Cork and Jonathan Marsden have signed summer contracts, Ben Slater has also been offered a one-year deal.

Slater has been a regular feature in Karl Krikken’s four-day side since making his first-class debut for the club against Surrey in May.

The 21-year-old scored 335 runs in his first LV= County Championship Division One campaign, including an unbeaten 66 against Sussex in the victory over Sussex at Hove.

The opening batsman also made his List A debut for Derbyshire against Lancashire at Old Trafford in August.

Fellow Cricket Derbyshire Academy graduates Cork and Marsden, meanwhile, were regulars in the Second XI in 2013.

Greg Cork, who plays in the Derbyshire Premier Cricket League for Denby, is the son of former Derbyshire and England all-rounder Dominic Cork.

Head coach Karl Krikken said: “It’s great to be able to offer contracts to three talented young lads who are products of our academy.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how they perform and develop with successful careers being their ultimate aim.

“In the case of Ben, I’m delighted we’re now in a position to offer him a deal so we’re looking forward to working with him again next year.”
