Leaders Butterley United CC lost top spot in Derbyshire County Cricket League Division Eight North after losing their big game at home to third-placed Chesterfield Barbarians by 235 runs.
Chasing 278-6, Butterley’s batting simply collapsed as they slumped to 43 all out.
Having won the toss, and electing to field, Harry Gee soon gave Butterley the upper hand with three quick wickets, as Barbarians sat on 15-3. However, in came the impressive Gavan (129) and Hoole (72 not out), who between them set a near 200 partnership, as they declared on 278-6 from 43 overs.
Gee finished with 4-55, whilst Bonsall took his tally to 40 wickets for the season.
In reply Butterley were poor to say the least, with some poor batting performances culminating in a grand total of 43 all out from 17.5 overs. Captain Calum West top scored with 15 not out, as Straw finished with bowling figures of 7-26.
However, in division 10N action, Butterley’s second team fared better as they visited Middleton, to face mid-table Wirksworth and ran out winners by eight wickets.
Winning the toss at this small venue, Butterley elected to field, and kept the opposition runs down with some tight fielding.
Ashurst came in at No.3 to hit a quick 32, but this was nothing compared to Khyang, who unleashed 53 runs in no time.
After some tight bowling from Kenney and Murcott, in came Nightingale and Hubbard to earn some potential bonus points, with Hubbard finishing on 6-71, as Wirksworth were held to 190-8.
In reply, Butterley soon headed towards the target, as Lounds (65) and Lees (48 not out) set a 102-partnership, despite injury to Lees requiring a runner. A. Hardwick (39 not) hit the winning runs in the 30th over, as Butterley finished on 192-2.
