Another win for Hornets

Amber Valley Hornets 4

Phoenix HC 2

Amber Valley Hornets continued their winning form with a friendly against Phoenix Hockey Club from Derby.

Division three side Hornets hosted Phoenix at their Mill Hill School home ground in Ripley and despite their opposition lying third in division two, Hornets continued their unbeaten run.

However, it was Phoenix opened the scoring with a great strike in the first ten minutes and managed to keep the Hornets at bay until after half time.

Alison Scothern and Jamie Garner both made their debuts for the Hornets and both put in great performances with Alison keeping Pheonix forward Rachel Kitchen out of the game for the first half.

The second half saw Hornets find their game and in a stronger performance, they produced some superb passing and team play.

The equaliser came from a defensive move which Terri Cartledge passed on to Sarah Toon on the wing with three high speed passes into the D culminating in a great goal from Bev Allan to make it 1-1.

After that the Hornets picked up the pace and attacked strongly winning four short corners in quick succession of which resulted in two goals.

Player of the match Dawn Spendlove converted a great cross from Lynn Cresswell with Ellesha Garner having another strong game upfront poaching a great goal to take the score to 3-1.

Tanya Porter the Hornets goalkeeper played outfield for the second half and defended brilliantly to save a certain goal. However, Phoenix broke and managed to score pass kicking back Rachel Warner to bring the score to 3-2.

Bev Allan than sealed the game with a goal five minutes from the end.
