Ambergate fall just two runs short of victory

Ambergate fell to defeat by just two runs on Saturday as they failed to reach Ockbrook & Borrowash’s low score of 80 in Division Two of the DCCL.

Ockbrook batted first and openers George Brandrick and Oliver Mitchell reached 22 before Brandrick fell to the bowling of Steve Marshall.

Phil Mason then bowled top scorer Mitchell (21) with the score on 39 and from then on Ockbrook struggled to get into much of a rhythm as wickets fell at regular intervals.

They were eventually all out for 80, Josh Nicholas on hand to see off most of the lower order as he took 4-13 from his 11 overs.

Mason finished with 2-23, Marshall 1-18, Matt Ball 1-10 and Jack McIver 1-11.

Ambergate similarly struggled with the bat and, having got to 17 without loss, were quickly 18-3.

Paul Thompson was the only Ambergate player to score double figures, his 21 only bettered by the extras column with 34 of their runs handed to them by the opposition.

Ultimately, Ambergate fell just two runs short when David Nightingale was last man out with the score on 78.
