Alfreton Town sign two more on eve of season opener

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has signed two more players in time for the opening game of the season on Saturday at home to Hyde United (3pm).

The Reds boss has landed right sided midfield player Ben Muirhead, 25, and goalkeeper Joe McCormack, 19.

Muirhead was released from his contract with Rochdale by mutual consent last week and snapped up by Nicky Law who gave him his chance at Bradford City when he had been released by Manchester United in 2003.

He made 36 appearances for Rochdale last season including in the League Two play off final against Stockport at Wembley.

McCormack has played pre-season games with Shirebrook Town and has experience with Coventry City's Academy side as well as coming through the Centre of Excellence at Mansfield Town.

Both players go straight into the squad to face Hyde on Saturday.

Central defender Tony Butler and midfielder Jordan Hall have also signed for the 2008/09 campaign.

Meanwhile, central defender Matt Wilson has been given dispensation to play in Worksop Town's pre-season friendly at Glapwell on Saturday prior to joining the Notts club on a month's loan on Sunday.
