Alfreton Town make it three wins in a row

ALFRETON Town recorded a 1-0 victory at Matlock Town on Wednesday night thanks to an 87th minute goal from Chris Senior.

The win made it three victories in a row for the Reds in a week after a 2-1 home win over Sheffield United Reserves last week and a staggering 14-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday’s Academy side last Sunday at the Impact Arena.

Against Matlock, the only goal of the game three minutes from time saw Nathan Jarman square the ball in to Senior who stepped away from his marker and curled an eight-yard shot around home keeper Jon Kennedy and in-off the far post for his second goal in as many games.

There were six former Reds in the Matlock Town ranks - Michael Harcourt, Chris Bettney, TJ Nightingale, Ryan Mallon, Steve Warne and Kris Bowler.

And another familiar face to older Alfreton fans was match referee Matt Walsh. The popular midfield man made 344 appearances for the Reds, scoring 72 goals.

The Reds complete their pre-season friendlies on Saturday when they visit Rainworth MW. Kick-off is 3pm.
