Alfreton CC 1sts are on the brink of relegation from the Derbyshire Premier League going into the final weekend of the season.

They are currently propping up the table and are 25 points adrift of safety with one game to play.

An added element is that third bottom side Lullington Park have a game in hand on both them and second bottomn side Marehay.

On Saturday, Alfreton managed to come away from their game against Ticknall with a draw after an afternoon to forget for their bowlers.

Alfreton won the toss at Alfreton Park and asked their visitors to bat first but this was the prelude to a difficult 40 overs for their bowlers, who were unable to take a wicket as openers Paul Borrington and Tom Wood both scored unbeaten centuries.

Borrington was recently released by Derbyshire but he continues to be a prolific scorer in the Derbyshire Premier League.

He compiled 122 not out off 132 balls, including ten fours and six sixes.

His opening partner Tom Wood was also in fine form, making 114 not out off 11 balls. His attacking knock featured 21 fours and two sixes.

In tbe end, Ticknall made a very handy 254-0 from their 40 overs.

Elliot Savidge had the best figures of the seven bowlers used with o-34 off nine overs.

Alfreton then produced a confident reply, eventually finishing on 178-4 to claim a draw.

Anthony Mosca led the way at the top of the innings in fine style with an excellent unbeaten knock of 85 for Alfreton.

He dominated a positive opening stand of 71 with Mark Stokes (12) before joining forces with Ryan Bramwell.

The pair put on 100 runs before Bramwell was dismissed for 52.

They then lost another two quick wickets but by then the match had been comfortably saved and Alfreton finished on 178-4.

They end the season on Saturday against Dunstall.
