A fine all-round display by Cokayne

In a DCCL Division Three match badly affected by rain, in cold blustery conditions, Shipley gained a creditable draw at Derby Congs on Saturday.

James Cokayne was the star performer for Shipley, hitting 42 not out and took 3-10 in just a couple of overs.

Shipley won the toss and asked the opposition to bat first.

James Parkin grabbed an early wicket but opener Stanwell continued a good innings and made 42 before being caught by Neil Parkin to give James Parkin his second wicket.

Ayaz then hit 24 and Waseem 18 but Tom Starr took both their wickets in a useful spell.

When Rehman came to the wicket, he soon declared his intentions and hit a succession of sixes and fours.

He scored an aggressive 84 before being caught by Neil Parkin off the bowling of James Cokayne.

Murfin also grabbed a wicket and Derby Congs were then obliged to declare at 204-8 off 44 overs, with the time factor coming into the equation.

Shipley were only able to bat for 24 overs in their innings due to the weather and poor light. They lost three wickets in that time but Cokayne hit 42 not out, supported by Mark Starr (11 not out) and the draw was a foregone conclusion.

Derby Congs earned 12 points to Shipley’s 10.
