DENBY Cricket club enjoyed an excellent weekend with all teams winning their games.
The firsts made the short journey to local rivals Stainsby Hall and came away with a four-wicket win.
After being put into bat Stainsby ticked over at around three an over in the initial stages of their innings but the Denby bowlers gradually gained the upper hand. Jake Sherriff made an early breakthrough and there was an impressive spell from Greg Cork who took 2 for 15 in a 7 over stint.
The pressure was maintained by Ahtesham Yaqoob (1 - 28) and Joe Greenhalgh (2 - 31) as the Stainsby batsmen struggled to make any headway.
A number of batsmen got a start but once Greenhalgh removed top scorer Mark Footitt for 26 and Dan Wood for 18 in successive overs the door was open and Jake Sherriff took full advantage by skittling the lower order as Stainsby subsided to 115 all out. Sherriff finished with impressive figures of 5 for 22 from 13.4 overs.
The Denby reply was not without incident as they came up against a fiery spell from Derbyshire pace bowler Footitt.
Both openers were victims of Footitt although Chris Durham looked in good form before he went for 26.
There was work to do and Sunil Bhatt used all his experience to keep the scoreboard ticking as he saw his team to victory finishing on 37 not out and making the winning hit in the 23rd over.
Stuart Poplar played a part as he biffed a quick 21 when the innings wobbled at 85 for 4 and although there were a couple of late wickets Denby were pleased to come away with a four-wicket win and 22 points from one of the form teams of the league.
For Stainsby Footitt bowled exceptionally quick and finished with figures of 4 for 33 to help his team to get three points from the game.
This win keeps Denby at the top of the table with the key game of the season to come on Saturday when they are at home to second-placed Swarkestone.
The game starts at 12.30pm and Denby will be looking to improve on their effort against Swarkestone earlier in the year when they fell to their heaviest defeat of the season.
