A woman has been taken to hospital after her car left the A38 this morning and hit a tree.

The incident happened shortly after 7am on the northbound carriageway between the Ripley and Alfreton turnoffs.

The Ford Ka’s driver had to be removed from the vehicle by the fire service and was then taken by land ambulance to the Royal Derby Hospital.

Her injuries are not thought to be serious.

The incident caused substantial tailbacks as the vehicle was being recovered but these are now over.
