Woman faked breakdown to get drugs cash

Nottingham Crown Court heard on Wednesday, May 25, how Faye Catherine Parkin, 28, of Jessop Street, Codnor, Ripley, requested money from three victims while claiming her car had broken down because it had run out of fuel.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop told a previous Chesterfield magistrates’ court hearing: “She knocked on the victims’ doors telling them that she had run out of petrol and she asked for money from them to buy fuel.

“She was given £15 by one of the victims who felt sorry for her and he had believed her account. One of the victims said he didn’t have any money and she complimented him about his age.”

Parkin’s case was committed to Nottingham Crown Court where she pleaded guilty to one count of committing fraud by dishonestly making a false representation by requesting money while claiming her car had broken down to make a gain of £15. She also admitted two further counts of fraud by making a false representation by requesting money on the same basis with the intent of causing loss. The offences were all committed on May 4.

Parkin stated it had been her birthday, according to Mrs Parkin, and she had committed the offences to get cash to buy drugs.

Defence solicitor John Wilford revealed Parkin lives with a partner and child and she has been looking at rehabilitation support. Her case was further adjourned for sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on June 16.
