Heage windmill closed its doors for the winter and community members marked this by taking part in an age-old tradition.
About 35 people got to grips with the spinning of a ‘spider’s web’, made from elastic, which was placed on the embankment below the mill.
Lynn Allen, organiser of the event, was dubbed the ‘Queen Spider’, and was in charge of the spinning.
She said: “The web is large enough to ensure the mill will be well protected through the cold winter months.
“Everyone enjoyed themselves and will be looking forward to the same event next year.”
The spinning of the web took place on Sunday, October 26, and the windmill will be closed until April, except for a one-off Christmas special.
On Sunday, December 7, the mill will open between 12 and 4 for visits from Santa.
