Fire crews from Heanor and Alfreton were kept busy over the weekend after a spate of small fires in the region.
Heanor’s crew were called out to Bamford Street in Marehay on Saturday at 1pm, where five sq metres of grassland were alight. Then on Sunday, flames were discovered at the base of a tree at Nottingham Lane, in Ironville, just before 3pm. Alfreton firefighters used beaters to put out the flames.
Shortly afterwards, at 5pm, the same crew had to calm a ten sq metre grassland fire at Goose Lane, Codnor. No one was hurt.
Finally on Sunday night, at 9.15pm, an out of control bonfire spread to a nearby tree and fence on Bailey Brook Drive, Langley Mill. A Heanor crew had the fire under control by 10pm.
