Ripley and Heanor’s community heroes have been recognised for their good deeds at our New Year Honours 2013 awards ceremony this week.
Each year the News seeks to reward those special people who think nothing of giving up their time for the good of others.
We asked our readers to nominate people they thought worthy of being recognised for their endeavours.
And you responded brilliantly - presenting us with 12 fantastic winners ranging from a tireless home carer through to a housing campaigner.
News Editor Julie Crouch said: “We truly felt there were some unsung heroes out there who selflessly and tirelessly give up their time for the good of others.
“We felt the good work and deeds of these people often went unnoticed by the wider community and we wanted to give these people some deserved recognition.
“It really was inspiring to meet all of our winners. It wasn’t a glitzy bash, but it was a great afternoon and I hope our winners’ certificates will take pride of place on their mantlepiece because they really deserve them.”
