A PILOT scheme to help train 500 more volunteers to work with children and young people is to go county-wide.
The Derbyshire Volunteer Passport Scheme was developed by Derbyshire County Council and is designed to make sure volunteers have the skills needed to work with youngsters.
An event for the Ripley area will be held on Tuesday, June 7, at Ripley Methodist Church Hall, in Wood Street, from 6pm to 6.20pm.
Volunteers are offered five three-hour training sessions covering topics including first aid, health and safety, keeping children safe, equal opportunities and consulting with young people.
Launched in 2009 the pilot scheme has helped train 200 volunteers, with 15 gaining employment and 120 progressing into other training.
The scheme will now be extended to give 500 more volunteers county-wide the chance to benefit.
