Views on £2.4m heritage cash spend are sought

Belper people are being asked for their views on how £2.4 million secured to help protect the landscape around the town should be spent.

Those living in and around the Lower Derwent Valley between Derby and Matlock Bath, including Belper, are being encouraged to get involved in the DerwentWISE partnership project which aims to safeguard and restore the valley’s iconic landscape.

DerwentWISE, led by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust,landed the money from the Heritage Lottery Fund

Over the summer the project will be consulting with people.

A questionnaire aims to find out how much interest there is in the heritage and conservation training opportunities the project will provide. It will be available at events including the craft fair at Cromford Mill Yard on August 12. Representatives t will also ask people for their views in Matlock Bath on August 13.

Community groups will be invited to give their views at community events including in Cromford to be finalised as yet but set to be later this month.
