Vandals hit rail church

VANDALS smashed six windows of a Victorian church at Swanwick Junction on Monday night.

The tin tabernacle church, originally from Westhouses, had been restored by volunteers at The Midland Railway in Butterley and has become an award-winning attraction at the railways museum.

Development officer Alan Calladine said: “The church is a very special part of our museum complex and this mindless vandalism goes against everything that we try to achieve there. There will be quite a cost to the repairs but that is nothing compared to the disappointment and annoyance of our volunteers.”

Security will now be stepped up at the museum.
