Uproar at anti-pollution scheme

Business leaders in Derbyshire have slammed a Government bid to cut pollution along the M1.

Proposals to reduce the speed limit to 60mph between junctions 28, at South Normanton, and 35A on the M1 triggered fears from the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire Chambers of Commerce the 34-mile-long slow-down zone would “negatively impact” businesses, commuters and overall journey times.

A spokesman said: “Logistics operators, hauliers, distributors and public transport operators would all have to factor in longer journey times, which would increase costs.”
