TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Mayor of Amber Valley who died on Sunday. Councillor Mel Hall died at the Royal Derby Hospital, aged 73. He had served as a borough councillor for Kilburn, Denby and Holbrook since 2005 and was Mayor of Amber Valley in 2005-2006, supporting the Rainbows Hospice and Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre charities during his year in office.
Nigel Mills, Amber Valley MP, said: “Mel was a true gentleman and a great servant of his local community. I had the pleasure of working with Mel for ten years and greatly valued his wise counsel and knowledge. He was a dedicated councillor and a very able cabinet member, and he will be greatly missed.
“My sympathies are with Mel’s wife Margaret and his family at this difficult time.”
