Tributes paid to first head of Frederick Gent

MORE THAN 150 people have packed the Zion Chapel, in South Normanton, to pay their respects to Trevor Bellamy, the first headteacher of Frederick Gent School.

The memorial service saw friends and colleagues reminisce about his character, his varied interests and his professional achievements.

Granddaughter Jane Lewis said: “It was very successful, there was a good atmosphere and people enjoyed good memories.”

She spoke about the influence of her grandfather, a local preacher in the coalfields of South Wales, on her father and how this caused him to be generous with his time.

She said: “My parents would tell people that the most important thing they would do in life was to give their children a secure and loving home so that they would grow up confident and able to cope with the demands life put on them.”

Tributes were paid by Mr Bellamy’s former colleagues, friends and people he has met in the church.
