Trek for foodies

HISTORIAN Adrian Farmer treated food lovers to an Easter-themed tour of Belper’s most important culinary venues.

The Belper Historical Society vice-president - who was recently given a tourism award for tirelessly promoting the town - led the walk on behalf of Strutt’s North Mill on Thursday.

Among the highlights were Market Square, which once had the highest concentration of ale houses in Britain, and the site of the first bakery factory near the old Thornton’s building in Derwent Street.

Walkers then had the chance to create a bite-sized souvenir of the event during an Easter Egg Workshop at I Should Cocoa chocolatiers, which is based on Strutt Street.

Strutt’s North Mill trust manager, Natascha Wintersinger, said: “This event was a great way of bringing alive local history and also having some chocolatey Easter fun.”
