Students inspired by famous picture

Pupils at a South Winfield school have been getting arty during their first term.

Each year, the National Gallery runs a schools project entitled Take One Picture and students at South Wingfield Primary School decided to take part.

The project involves one chosen picture and this year the image was Mr and Mrs Andrews, an oil on canvas portrait by 1700s artist Thomas Gainsborough.

Students cut up the picture and each painted a part of it, wrote biographies of Thomas Gainsborough and created thought and speech bubbles about what Mr and Mrs Andrews might be thinking.

Parents and relatives were then invited to an exhibition.

Pupils also took part in the European Day of Languages, with each class focussing on a different country.

They learnt some language and facts about the country and then selected a range of food to sell to their parents after assembly.
