Stolen memorial

RIPLEY Nursery School has issued an appeal for the return of a prized memorial bench.

The light wood bench, which was chained and padlocked to the wall outside the children’s centre, cost £170 and was stolen between 6pm on Thursday, January 13, and lunchtime on Friday. The bench was dedicated to Geoff Carlile, former leader of Amber Valley Borough Council and a chairman of the school’s board of governors for over 30 years, who died in July 2009.

Headteacher Cathy Naim said: “The staff and the children were extremely saddened and shocked that the bench had been taken.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0345 123 333 or the school on 01773 745014.
