There is still chance for artists to get out the tools of their trade and enter this year’s Derbyshire Open Art Competition.
Painters, drawers, printers, sculptors and collage artists are all being called on to take part in the competition which is open to amateur and professional artists.
Works must portray a Derbyshire theme and must be handed in by 4.30pm on Saturday, June 11.
The winner will take home the top prize of £750 and have their work displayed at Derbyshire County Council’s Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.
A number of other cash prizes are also up for grabs, including the best work in oils, watercolours, best landscape, the most creative interpretation of the Derbyshire theme and best works by artists under 22 and under 17.
The Derbyshire Open Art Competition is in its 29th year and is run by Derbyshire County Council. It will be judged by an independent panel of four people who will select the winners in 10 different categories.
Suitable subjects could include a landscape, view of your town, local people, representations of local legends or even still life. Most mediums can be used including oils, acrylics, watercolours, drawings, prints, collages or three-dimensional work.
Council leader and cabinet member for culture Councillor Andrew Lewer is urging artists everywhere to give it a go.
He said: “This is a prestigious competition which offers artists the chance to demonstrate their talent.
“The quality of entries year on year is very impressive and I would urge any artist thinking of entering to do so.
“Derbyshire has a beautiful landscape and a rich culture so there is plenty for artists to draw inspiration from and I look forward to seeing all the results.”
Artists can submit up to two original works which must be handed in between 10am and 4.30pm on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11, to Buxton Museum and Art Gallery on Terrace Road.
