The wet weather didn’t seem to dampen anyone’s spirits as crowds flocked to Horsley Woodhouse Carnival for a fun day of festivities.

The ever-popular annual carnival was organised by the Horsley Woodhouse Community Association and started with the traditional procession through the village to the showground at Sitwell Recreation Ground.

Organisers put on new events this year with terrier racing making its debut and Nesta’s Ark, which gave carnival-goers the opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with some weird and wonderful creatures.

The sun came out during the afternoon and the crowds enjoyed events at the show ground where old favourites made their return for another year running including an arts and crafts tent, tug of war, dog show and a performance from Heage Brass band, as well as two marching band displays.
