Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, July 20, how Adam Perkins, 25, of no fixed abode, threw a lighter at a TV as he lost his temper at his mum’s home at Houldsworth Drive, Chesterfield, and went on to throw a chair at her, damage a kitchen cupboard, a mirror and a living room door.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “The defendant was living with his mother but there had been issues with him since he was 14-years-old bringing friends around and smoking drugs and his behaviour was getting worse.”

Miss Haslam explained that his mum Vivien Perkins was woken at her home by the sound of her son Adam shouting and swearing on July 1 while he was on the phone to a friend and he threw a lighter at the TV.

As an argument developed between Perkins and his mum, according to Ms Haslam, Perkins threw a chair at his mum and pulled a cupboard door off its hinges, broke a mirror and he kicked a door breaking it into two.

Perkins accepted damaging the TV after losing his temper with a friend who owed him money and admitted throwing a lighter causing a crack to the TV screen as well as damaging other property and throwing a chair at his mum.

The defendant pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and also pleaded guilty to common assault after throwing the chair.

Ms Haslam added: “The victim’s mother is asking for a restraining order to prevent her son from contacting her and going to her address.”

Magistrates sentenced Perkins at a subsequent hearing on Wednesday, July 27, to a community order to last until January 26, 2018, with 50 hours of unpaid work and a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement with a Resolve Programme.

He was ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Magistrates also imposed a two-year restraining order on Perkins banning him from contacting his mother.
