ILKESTON born soap star William Roache hit the headlines this week after admitting he has slept with up to 1,000 women.
The 79-year-old Coronation Street actor initially told Piers Morgan he had been with “more than 100” women.
But when asked whether the real figure was nearer 1,000, William, who plays Ken Barlow in the long running show, replied: “Well, I’m not denying it.”
He added: “Looking back, I didn’t know any better. But what I did find out is it does not bring you happiness and it is not the way to be.
“I had the opportunity, I indulged it and I can tell you this: it’s not worth it. The pain that it caused, and there’s all sorts of dangers.
“There were plenty of girls around. I shouldn’t have done it. I didn’t have any control over my own sex drive. I didn’t have the strength to control it.
“It depressed me. I’m so sorry for the things that I did. The hurt was the children. I’ll always regret that. Every morning I woke up regretting and hurting.”
“To love somebody, and to make love to somebody that you love is the most beautiful thing in the world.”
The actor, who is the only original cast member to still walk the cobbles, admitted cheating on his first wife, spoke about the pain at losing his second wife and his joy at finding love again with TV weather girl Emma Jesson.
The full interview will be shown on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories on ITV1 next month.
