Snapper shortlisted after sharing '˜happy place' picture

Heanor snapper David Vowles has been shortlisted for a national competition designed to help people feel better during the dark days of winter.

David Vowles entered a photograph he took in Darwin Forest in the Peak District for the contest #MyHappyPlace.

The 65-year-old said his granddaughter’s birthday celebrations were the inspiration behind his picture.

He said: “Our youngest granddaughter has just turned five this January. Every year our family all enjoy a long weekend away at Darwin Forest.

“The weekend is arranged as near to our granddaughter’s birthday as possible. We have fun playing games inside and outside the lodge, riding bikes and swimming.

“The girls play in the dedicated play areas and my entry was taken just before the girls ran on in front along the path and hid behind trees. This area of the forest is calm and to see the girls so content and playing happily. How could a grandparent like me not be happy?

“This picture, and many more that I took, will always show a happy place and happy times long into the future for our great grandchildren and their children to see.”
